Al Gore
Re “Gore Goeth Forth With GOP Issue,” Column Right, June 15: Doug Gamble’s column on Al Gore and religion reveals some some amazing insights. Evidently God is a Republican and has given columnist Gamble extraordinary powers. He is able to look into Gore’s mind and determine that being a lifelong Southern Baptist is only a cynical political ploy and that Gore, after a lifetime of dedicated political service, is deserving only of a place in the “Hypocrites Hall of Fame.” In his God-given wisdom Gamble is also able to decide that Gore is “a mostly hollow vessel with no true beliefs beyond his environmental extremism.” Did I hear someone yell hypocrite?

Simple logic suggests that if the margin of error in your Gore-Bush poll (June 16) could mean that they are actually in a “dead heat” despite George W. Bush’s 5% margin, if applied the other way it would indicate that Bush may have a very commanding lead. Your bias is showing.

I am tired of reading about Vice President Gore running against the ghost of Bill Clinton (news analysis, June 14), with the conclusion that Gore does not measure up to Clinton in the charisma department! Wake up, people! We are not casting a movie here. We are selecting the leader of the free world. We are choosing the person who will hold the most important job in the world.
Gore has been the most involved vice president in our history. Gore has paid his dues, as did George H.W. Bush before him as Ronald Reagan’s vice president. If Gore doesn’t get a second term, that’s his fault, but he deserves a chance.
