Man Is Charged in Coffee Shop Killings

A 29-year-old man was charged in the July 1997 triple killings at a Starbucks coffee shop in the fashionable Georgetown district, a gruesome crime that drew nationwide attention. After a 20-month investigation by local law enforcement agencies and the FBI, District of Columbia Police Chief Charles Ramsey announced that Carl Cooper of Northeast Washington had been charged with three counts of first-degree murder. The three Starbucks employees were found by a co-worker in a back room.
