Santa Ana Wins Title
Santa Ana, a late addition to the Fullerton Invitational, won the softball tournament with a 3-1 victory over Chaffey in the title game Monday.
The Dons, who entered when San Bernardino Valley dropped out last week, got a two-run single from Rachelle Ngayan with two outs in the third inning for a 3-0 lead.
The Dons beat Eastern Arizona, 3-2, in eight innings in one semifinal when Rachelle Ngayan scored on a two-out error.
The Dons completed a long day by beating Irvine Valley, 4-2, in an Orange Empire Conference game.
Chaffey scored five runs in the seventh to beat Fullerton, 8-7, in one semifinal and end the Hornets’ 16-game winning streak.
In Orange Empire Conference men’s tennis:
Saddleback 8, Irvine Valley 1--John Cappello won at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-1, to improve to 12-0 for Saddleback (15-0, 12-0).
At the Citrus Invitational:
Saddleback third--Nick Fritz shot a three-over 75 for Saddleback which had 382 at Glendora Country Club. Canyons won at 375, beating Desert by a stroke.
Steve Bendt shot a 74 and Mark Hewlett had a 75 for fourth-place Santa Ana (389).
