8pm: Performance Art

Wandering downtown L.A. at night can often prove eventful, but director David Dratewka is taking no chances. For the “traveling performance event” he calls “Finding Space,” two actors serve as tour guides, leading the audience from the reflecting pools of California Plaza to locations within a two-block radius where various site-specific pieces await them. Composer Nathan Birnbaum complements the fanciful plaza waterworks with four songs in different styles. Author Nancy Agabian discusses the concept of home from a fenced-in lot filled with tree stumps and chunks of asphalt. And choreographer Shel Wagner uses a parking garage as a setting for movement-theater. Dress warm.

For an upbeat and uplifting look at kids and teenagers, don’t miss the free “Youth at the Greek--A Musical Festival,” where more than 200 talented students from elementary and secondary schools in the Los Angeles Unified School District will perform everything from Broadway songs and classical violin to Mexican and Greek folk dance and cool instrumental jazz. KABC-TV’s Garth Kemp hosts with Tahj Mowry from WB TV’s “Smart Guy.”
