William J. Jones; Oxnard Mechanic

Oxnard resident William J. Jones died Wednesday at St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard after a brief illness. He was 59.

Jones was born Feb. 3, 1940, in Camilla, Ga. He moved to Oxnard in 1962.

Jones was a heavy equipment mechanic for Pictsweet Frozen Foods in Oxnard. Prior to that, he worked as a fork-lift driver for Oxnard Frozen Foods.

He was active in the New Progressive Missionary Baptist Church in Oxnard and was a foster parent to several children.

Jones is survived by his wife, Juanita Jones of Oxnard; two sons, Clifford Jones and William Jones, both of Oxnard; three daughters, Barbara Woodson of Texas, Sara Jones of Oxnard and Shavonda Walker of Camarillo; his mother, Sara Jones of Georgia; a brother; a sister and 12 grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Monday at the New Progressive Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be at the Zion Grove Cemetery in Camilla.

The Joseph P. Reardon Funeral Home in Ventura was handling the arrangements.
