Jenkins Sets Two Records

James Jenkins of Crescenta Valley High was in a league by himself at the Pacific League swim finals Friday night at Arcadia High.

Jenkins, a 6-foot-5 sophomore, set league-finals records in winning the 50- and 100-yard freestyle races in 21.17 and 47.16 seconds, respectively.

Crescenta Valley, the defending Southern Section Division II champion, took the top three places in the 100 butterfly, with Kenny Carpenter winning in 51.12.

Marmonte League finals--Aron Gyuris of Thousand Oaks won the 100 free in 47.73, the 200 free in 1:45.42 and swam a leg on the winning 200 medley relay that clocked 1:41.96 at Rancho Simi Community Park.

Davis Stelle of Westlake won the 50 free in 22.26 and the Warriors outpointed Thousand Oaks, 544-529, in the team competition.

In the girls’ meet, Royal senior Ingrid Salazar won the 200 individual medley in 2:12.8 and the 100 free in 54.23.

Golden League finals--Palmdale senior Doug Robertson won the 200 individual medley in 2:14.51 and the 100 butterfly in 58.29 and also was part of the winning 200 medley and 200 free relays at Palmdale.

Keith Otto of Lancaster clocked 1:57.67 to win the 200 free over previously unbeaten Tim Young of Palmdale.

In the girls’ meet, Robertson’s sister, junior Summer Robertson, won the 100 butterfly in 1:08.22 and the 100 backstroke in 1:08.59.

Quartz Hill’s Sarah Mannino won the 200 individual medley in 2:30.96 and the 500 free in 5:52.47.
