Gasoline Prices Fall Again in California

California gasoline prices extended their losing streak, with the average price of self-serve regular unleaded gasoline dropping 3.4 cents to 1.509 a gallon for the week ended Monday, the Energy Information Administration said Monday.

The average price in California peaked April 12 at 1.624 a gallon. A year ago, Californians were paying an average of 1.219 a gallon for regular gasoline.

Nationwide, the average price of self-serve regular unleaded rose nearly half a cent during the last week to $1.14 a gallon, tying the 16-month high reached four weeks ago, said the EIA, an arm of the U.S. Energy Department.

Gasoline prices have been rising nationally because of higher crude oil prices and falling in California because of an easing of supply problems caused by several refinery mishaps.
