Collision Forces Closure of 118
A collision Friday between a tractor-trailer and a small gasoline tanker closed California 118 near Camarillo for more than an hour, causing a massive traffic backup, authorities said.
The crash occurred about 9:10 a.m. just west of Aggen Road, said California Highway Patrol Officer Dave Cockrill. The highway in that area is two lanes.
Semi driver Fernando Cano, 37, of Port Hueneme failed to yield the right of way while making a turn from the highway onto a dirt road, Cockrill said.
The gas tanker, driven by 43-year-old Neal Bishop of Fillmore broadsided the semi. The impact caused a small amount of diesel fuel to spill, Cockrill said.
Neither man was injured and no citations were issued but the case is under investigation. The crash caused a two-mile traffic backup in each direction.
