70 Deputies Surround Home in Siege
More than 70 sheriff’s deputies late Sunday were involved in a stakeout outside a residential area near Arcadia after reports that several gunmen had barricaded themselves after a shootout.
The stakeout came after deputies were called to an unincorporated area near East Altern Street and Redell Avenue to check a report of suspicious persons in the area, said sheriff’s Sgt. Irma Becerra.
Once deputies arrived, gunmen opened fire on them. The deputies took cover and called in the special weapons team for help. Although details were sketchy, SWAT team members were believed to have shot two of the suspects, who were transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Two other people were thought to have barricaded themselves in a building, and police established a command post at Camino Real and Myrtle Avenue, Becerra said.
