* Edna Mae Hammons; Ventura Real Estate Broker

Edna Mae Hammons, a retired real estate broker, died Nov. 14 at Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura. She was 84.

She was born June 11, 1915, in Confluence, Ky., and raised in the Ozark Mountains of Arkansas.

During World War II, she moved to California with her husband, Carl A. Hammons, while he worked at the China Lake Naval Base.

After the war, the couple moved to Oxnard and later to Ventura. Hammons’ husband was a school principal at Pierpont Elementary School, Will Rogers Elementary School and El Camino High School, all in Ventura.

She worked as a secretary and also as a clerk in retail stores.

Later she became a real estate broker. She owned the Edna Hammons Realtor office on Loma Vista Road in Ventura.

She was a past president of the Ventura Board of Realtors.

After her retirement, Hammons started quilting and won several blue ribbons at the Ventura County Fair. She also loved to work in her rose garden.

In addition to her husband of more than 50 years, she was preceded in death by their son, Carl Hammons Jr.

She is survived by two daughters, Glenda Rae Jones of Ojai and Julie Beth Johnson of Ventura; daughter-in-law Barbara Auer Hammons of Big Fork, Mont.; sister Alma Hartlein of Placentia; brother Astor Langdon of Ozark, Ark., and two grandchildren.

Private services were held at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park in Ventura.

Arrangements were under the direction of Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura.
