The second Target store in Irvine will open Wednesday at the Marketplace Irvine, marking the grand opening of the shopping center’s third addition.

The Marketplace, a multiplex of shops, restaurants and cinemas, is on both sides of Jamboree Road just north of the Santa Ana Freeway.

The third phase, on Jamboree between Bryan Avenue and Irvine Boulevard, will house about 20 stores filling 427,000 square feet of space.

About 80% of the new complex is already leased, said Jeff Dodd, Irvine Co. vice president of leasing retail.

Target and Lowe’s Home Improvement will be the anchor stores. Other venues include Barbecues Galore, 3 Day Blinds, Arizona Leather, Temptations Home, a Strouds outlet and Choice Carpet.

A food plaza, with mature palm and olive trees towering overhead, will host a variety of eateries, including Baja Fresh, Daphne’s Greek Cafe and Buca di Beppo Restaurant.

When the new phase is completely open, the Marketplace will encompass 1.6 million square feet and is predicted to generate more than $4 million in sales annually.

It will be one of the largest shopping centers in both size and revenue for the entire county, Dodd said.
