Members of the Niguel Botanical Preserve presented an idea for building a water pollution education center and asked the Moulton Niguel Water District board Wednesday for funding.

The center would feature a 75-seat amphitheater and displays designed and provided by the water district, local universities and the Capistrano Unified School District, Nancy Palmer, a spokeswoman for the preserve, said after the water district board meeting.

Palmer emphasized the center is only a concept so far. The preserve hasn’t presented its plan to the City Council yet.

“We’d like to see school groups going there,” Palmer said. “There’s been widespread movement afoot about watershed management. We’re proposing a center where those kinds of topics can be addressed. And we’re giving local institutions opportunities for community involvement.”
