Fremont Is Stopped Cold by Crenshaw
After going unbeaten in its non-league schedule, Fremont High came crashing down in its Coliseum League opener Friday night, getting dominated by Crenshaw, 21-0, at Fremont.
Crenshaw (4-2 overall, 1-0 in league) had 222 of its 260 yards and scored all of its points in the first half, before the defense took over, holding the Pathfinders (5-1, 0-1) to 51 yards in the second half.
Despite the defensive effort, Crenshaw Coach Robert Garrett was disappointed in his offense’s second-half performance.
“In the second half, we didn’t show any kind of championship-caliber performance,” he said. “I don’t know if it was because we had a 21-0 lead, or what. But our first-half performance was spectacular. I am pleased with that.”
Quarterback Devin Hollins completed eight of 13 passes for 98 yards and three touchdowns in the first half. Running back Stephon Cannon had 87 yards in 14 carries in the half.
“They kicked our butts up and down the field,” Fremont Coach Pete Duffy said. “They’re a big, fast, physical team up front.”
