LA HABRA
In what a La Habra City School District official described as rare turnover, two principals have announced they will retire.
Pat Miller, principal of Walnut Elementary since 1985, will step down at the end of December. She will be replaced by Michael Klewer, a former Walnut teacher who is the assistant principal at Imperial Middle School. Walnut serves grades three through five.
In July, Rosemary Herendeen will retire as principal of Arbolita Elementary, which serves kindergarten through second grade. Officials will soon begin advertising for a new principal, said Tim Harvey, assistant superintendent for the district.
Supt. Richard Hermann announced the planned departures at Thursday’s school board meeting. Harvey said that turnover among La Habra principals is rare, with just one principal change in the last 10 years.
