MISSION VIEJO
About a dozen parents took up a crusade against Internet pornography in public libraries at Monday’s City Council meeting. The parents were supporting Councilman John Paul Ledesma’s proposal to add software to Mission Viejo Library computers that would block access to pornographic Web sites.
“Unfiltered Internet access places a virtual adult bookstore in the middle of the library, easily accessible by children on publicly funded computers,” Ledesma said.
But Director of Library Services Valerie Meyer told the council that library employees monitor computers and suspend Internet privileges of patrons who intentionally access adult Web sites.
The council could consider the issue at a December meeting.
