SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Ocean View quarterback Deshai Houston usually does most of his talking with his arm, but Saturday it was his footwork and a key interception that spoke volumes.

The county’s leading passer still amassed his yards passing, 277 to be precise. But his interception from his defensive back position to open the fourth quarter and a 14-yard scramble on the ensuing drive helped set up the winning touchdown in Ocean View’s 28-22 Golden West League victory over Santa Ana at Santa Ana Stadium.

Trailing, 14-8, late in the third quarter, Ocean View took a one-point lead when Houston hit Luka Levu over the middle for a 20-yard touchdown.

On the ensuing kickoff, Justin Krueger’s squib kick hit Santa Ana’s Joseph Wall in the foot, bounced up and was pulled down by Levu, giving Ocean View a first down at the Saint 34-yard line.

Houston found Krueger for a 27-yard touchdown pass and the Seahawks (6-1, 2-0) led, 21-14.

On the first play of the fourth quarter, Houston picked off a tipped pass from Santa Ana’s Alfred Guidry.

Ocean View took over and on third and 10, Houston scrambled 14 yards for the first down. He found Brett Crevda in the end zone on the next play to give the Seahawks a 28-14 lead.

The touchdown completed a 20-point flurry for Ocean View in just over four minutes.

Guidry returned the ensuing kickoff 63 yards for a touchdown and Frostee Rucker ran in the two- point conversion to pull Santa Ana (4-3, 0-1) within six points. But the Saints’ final drive ended at the Ocean View 36.

The Saints hurt themselves with penalties, committing 14 for 144 yards.

Houston finished 15 of 35 for 277 yards with four touchdowns and two interceptions.
