Katella, Halter Top Century; Brethren Christian Wins

Katella’s balanced offense proved to be too much for Century and the Knights defeated the host Centurions, 21-7, Saturday at Tustin High.

Quarterback Chris Halter completed 12 of 24 passes for 201 yards, throwing for one touchdown and setting up two others. Running back Ruben Torres gained 90 yards in 22 carries, anchoring a rushing attack that produced 139 yards.

Katella scored first with 1:15 remaining in the second quarter on a two-yard touchdown run by Torres, one play after Halter’s 19-yard pass to Marlon Roman.

On Century’s ensuing possession, Katella recovered a Tino Rivera fumble at the Centurion 35. The Knights capitalized three plays later on Victor Espinoza’s three-yard touchdown run, which made the score 14-0. It was set up by Al Williams’ 27-yard reception.

The Knights made it 21-0 with 5:05 left in the third quarter, when Halter’s 15-yard scoring pass to Williams capped an 18-play, 78-yard drive.

The Centurions’ only score came early in the fourth quarter on a three-yard run by Rivera, who had 113 yards in 28 carries.
