Play Written by Pope to Be Performed
SANTA CLARA — A play written by Karol Wojtyla, now Pope John Paul II, will be performed at Santa Clara University.
“Our God’s Brother,” due to open Nov. 12, focuses on the life of Adam Chmielowski, a Polish artist who loses his leg while fighting for Poland’s freedom.
He becomes a famous painter and then turns his studio into a shelter for homeless strangers he meets on the street.
Pope John Paul II has written six plays, three since becoming pope, the university said. The director, Jagienka Zych-Drweski, a native of Poland, received the pope’s blessing on the play.
