* Sts. Simon and Jude Catholic Church will celebrate its re-dedication during a Mass led by Bishop Tod D. Brown of the Diocese of Orange at 9:45 a.m. Sunday. The church recently completed renovations to the building’s acoustics and sound systems. Music will be provided by the parish choir, hand bell choirs, brass, organ and piano. A reception will follow. * The Rev. John-Charles, vicar general of the General Diocese of Australia, will speak on his book “The Seven Deadly Sins, Seven Graceful Virtues and Seven Mystical or Spiritual Gifts” during a series of talks at 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday at St. Matthew’s Anglican Catholic Church. * John Barry, director of the DeVry Institute of Technology, will host a “Who Am I?” divorce recovery workshop as part of the relationship seminar series at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church. * The Rev. Alan Landes will give the message “Facing the Horizon” at 8:45 and 10:30 a.m. Sunday at Trinity United Presbyterian Church in observance of All Saints’ Day. * The United Methodist Church of Garden Grove will host its Family Halloween Party from 6 to 7:30 this evening. There will be games, a jack-o’-lantern contest (bring your own carved pumpkin), a costume parade and supper at a nominal price. Children will also have an opportunity to trick-or-treat through the school rooms. Each family is asked to bring an unopened bag of treats and $1 per child. * The Center for Spiritual Development will present “Hope 2000--A One Day Spirituality Conference” from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Nov. 6. George St. Laurent will speak on “Toward Unimagined Future: The Dynamics of Christian Hope,” then the Rev. Charlotte Cleghorn will discuss “Abounding in Hope” followed by Sylvia Swanke speaking on “Recognizing Freedom.” Cost is $45 and guests should bring a lunch. The center is at 434 S. * Mariners South Coast Church will host its 11th annual Harvest Carnival, a safe and positive alternative to Halloween, from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday. There will be a three-story slide, laser tag, a human slingshot, a bounce house, prizes, ponies and a petting zoo. Pizza, popcorn and candy will also be available. Friendly costumes are welcomed. * Church of Grace will host its 10th annual safe Halloween Family Carnival from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday. Events will include children’s games, a bungee run, bounce house, cake walk, petting zoo, face painting, pony rides and the Concourse mobile bowling unit. There will also be a silent auction benefiting the church’s children and youth programs. The event and its games are free. In-N-Out Burger will be on hand for dinner. The church is at 1026 S.
