France Issues First Gay Travel Planner

The land of Gay Paree has finally issued a tourist guide for gay men and lesbians, following a similar guide issued last year by the British Tourist Authority.

“Gay Friendly France: Liberte, Egalite, Diversite” is part of an outreach to gays headed by Jacques Caradec, West Coast director of the French Government Tourist Office in Beverly Hills. The 24-page guide, whose cover shows an embracing gay male couple eyeing an out-of-kilter Eiffel Tower, profiles famous French gay men and lesbians, spotlights gay-friendly neighborhoods and historic sites (as well as standard tourist attractions) and tells where to find French gay service centers, publications and tour specialists.

The free guide is available at French tourist offices (including the one in Beverly Hills, 9454 Wilshire Blvd., Suite 715); by calling the France-on-Call hotline at (410) 286-8310; or by writing to “Gay Friendly France,” c/o French Government Tourist Office, P.O. Box 386, Bohemia, NY 11716.
