Citizens Against Excessive Traffic, a group of residents opposed to the proposed Bixby project, have begun collecting signatures to repeal zoning changes associated with the proposed 218-acre commercial and residential complex.

The project was recently halted by an Orange County Superior Court judge who ordered the city to revise an environmental study of the project.

Judge William F. McDonald wanted an evaluation of the project’s impact on local schools, as well as correction of an acreage table. The amendments were approved at the City Council’s last meeting, with Patty Campbell dissenting, and McDonald will decide Sept. 23 whether the project can go forward.

The group must turn in at least 1,703 signatures, approximately 10% of the city’s registered voters, by Sept. 22 to get its measure placed on a ballot.
