John Snyder of the Chicago White Sox underwent surgery on his pitching elbow and the former Westlake High right-hander should be ready for spring training.

Snyder underwent an arthroscopy for removal of bone chips and damaged tissue.

Snyder, 25, was 9-12 with a 6.68 earned-run average this season. He has a career record of 16-14 with a 5.93 ERA.

The surgery was the second on Snyder’s elbow. He had “Tommy John” tendon surgery in 1996.

* The City Section has approved baseball teams to play 15 league games and two practice games for the 2000 season. Teams can play in three tournaments but cannot play more than 32 games.

* Costa Nicolaou, the men’s and women’s coach at Occidental College, has been selected the girls’ coach at Hart.

* The four-day Amateur Athletic Foundation/CIF Basic Soccer Clinic is scheduled for Oct. 9-10 and Oct. 16-17 at Moorpark College.

The clinic is a prerequisite for attending subsequent two-day advanced clinics scheduled for Oct. 23-24 at Long Beach City College and at Mt. San Antonio College.

* Dive Thousand Oaks is seeking new members for its boys’ diving team. Boys between the ages of 7 and 17 will be taught fundamentals of springboard diving and will participate in age-group competition in the year-round program, sanctioned by U.S. Diving.

* A College/Amateur golf tournament is scheduled for noon Oct. 10 at Saticoy Country Club.

Teams will consist of three noncollegiate amateurs and two college players. Scores will include one gross best-ball of the college players and one net best-ball of the amateurs. Registration: $105 for club members, $150 for nonmembers, and includes lunch, tee prizes, range balls and dinner.
