Whittier California 33, La Habra 32--Trailing by 26 points in the first half, La Habra rallied late but was unable to overcome six turnovers at California High.

With 2:19 remaining, Josh Herrera pulled the Highlanders (0-3) to within 33-32, scoring his third touchdown on a nine-yard run. But the two-point conversion run came up short when Herrera was stopped by a swarming California defense.

California (3-0) scored on its first possession after recovering an onside kick on the opening kickoff.

California recovered another onside kick on the ensuing kickoff but the Condors (3-0) were unable to capitalize.

California built a 26-0 lead by the second quarter.

Herrera put La Habra on the scoreboard on a 62-yard run with 4:13 left in the second quarter to make it 26-7. He also caught a 70-yard touchdown pass from Randall Parra in the third quarter.

Herrera finished with 122 yards rushing in 19 carries.

Parra’s 54-yard touchdown pass to John Tapia cut California’s lead to 26-13 at halftime.

Defensively, Marcus Arredondo had two of La Habra’s 10 sacks. La Habra also held California to 12 yards rushing in the second half.

Parra threw for 149 yards on four of 21 passing with two touchdowns and three interceptions.
