Riverside Notre Dame 29, Calvary Chapel 13

Riverside Notre Dame held Calvary Chapel to minus-33 yards in total offense and defeated the Eagles in a nonleague game at Riverside Sherman Indian High.

Tailback Derrick Johnson rushed for 115 yards and two touchdowns in 13 carries for Notre Dame. The Titan defense had five sacks, four by linebacker Michael Hodges, and two fumble recoveries by defensive tackle Aaron Lyons.

The Titans (3-0), the top-ranked team in the Southern Section Division XXII poll, scored their first touchdown late in the first quarter on a six-yard run by Eric Baines. Johnson increased Notre Dame’s lead to 21-0 after scoring on runs of nine and eleven yards.

Calvary Chapel (0-3) took advantage of sloppy play by Notre Dame in the fourth quarter.

After two 15-yard penalties against the Titans, Eagle quarterback Brent Concolino completed a 18-yard touchdown pass to Blake West with nine minutes remaining to make it 29-6.

West also made a difference on defense in the fourth quarter for Calvary Chapel. He intercepted a pass from Titan quarterback T.J. Chavez and returned it 90 yards for a touchdown.
