Strings
The highly acclaimed Angeles String Quartet will perform Saturday in Sherman Oaks. Formed in Los Angeles in 1988, the ensemble has received rave reviews across the country ever since. The ensemble consists of Stephen Erdody on cello, Kathleen Lenski and Sara Parkins on violin and Brian Dembow on viola. In addition to its busy concert schedule, the ensemble last year completed a five-year project, with support from the Joseph Haydn Society, to record all of Haydn’s 68 pieces written for the string quartet. Saturday’s program will include works by Haydn, Shostakovich and Mendelssohn.

Mozart
The Glendale Symphony Orchestra will present an all-Mozart program Saturday evening at the Alex Theatre. Included in the program will be the Overture to “Cosi Fan Tutte”; Concerto in A for piano; and Symphony No. 35. Sidney Weiss will conduct.

Banjo Music
Alison Brown and her band will play Saturday night at Cal State Northridge. The virtuoso banjo player quit her job as an investment banker and earned a Grammy nomination with her 1990 debut album, “Simple Pleasures.” She later went on to work in the band Alison Krauss and Union Station and as musical director for Michelle Shocked. Brown and company utilize elements of jazz, Latin, pop, folk, New Age and classical music. Her latest CD, “Out of The Blue,” is available on Compass Records.

Celtic Music
Irish balladeer Ian Millar will perform Sunday afternoon in North Hollywood. His repertoire includes traditional and contemporary Irish fare, as well some country-western, pop and R&B.;
