Daylight Exec Named Weber Distribution President

* Guy Denniston has been named president of Weber Distribution of Santa Fe Springs. Denniston spent the last nine years as senior vice president of sales and marketing at Daylight Transport. He will be responsible for all day-to-day activities and will lead efforts for implementing automation and advanced technologies.

* BSMG Worldwide, a public relations firm that is a division of True North Communications, has promoted Joseph Kessler to the new position of president of the firm’s U.S. western region. He will be based in Los Angeles. The western regional office oversees six locations with 200 employees. Kessler was most recently president of BSMG’s Los Angeles office.

* Valencia-based U.S. Borax Inc., a leading supplier of industrial borate, has named Keith Sperring global business manager of its Borax Polymer Additives Group. He most recently served as global business manager for antioxidants at Great Lakes Chemical Co., based in West Lafayette, Ind. He will oversee Borax’s business relationships worldwide. Borax is a division of London-based mining giant Rio Tinto.

* Ralphs Grocery Co. has promoted Jim O’Day to group vice president, warehousing and distribution. He will be responsible for the company’s warehousing, transportation and fleet services. Los Angeles-based Ralphs, a division of Kroger Co., also named Dave Ackerman vice president, produce and floral. He replaces Kerry Hodges, who recently retired from the company after more than 25 years.

* James A. Burk has been named executive vice president by United Cinemas International, an operator of 859 movie screens that is a joint venture between Universal Studios and Paramount Pictures. Burk, formerly a senior vice president of international operations for Universal Pictures, will be responsible for strategic planning, business development and finance. He will be based in Los Angeles.

* Entertainment attorney Deborah Klein has joined the Santa Monica law firm of Barnes Morris & Yorn as a partner. The firm’s name will be Barnes Morris Klein & Yorn.
