Her School Concerns Go Beyond Books
Nubia Dorothy Rivas of Fullerton has won the first Junior League of Orange County scholarship.
Rivas, 19, was selected for her participation in Girl’s Hope, a league program for youths, and her involvement with school and community activities.
The scholarship was presented at a recent general meeting.
Rivas was praised for her community activities--ranging from working at a local soup kitchen to collecting clothing for hurricane victims--as well as her desire for more education.
A 1999 graduate of Rosary High in Fullerton, Rivas is studying political science at Mount St. Mary’s College in Los Angeles.
The scholarship program, for those who have participated in league programs, awards up to $500 each semester for up to four years. High school, college and trade school students who have been involved in league programs can apply by contacting the league at 5140 Campus Drive, Newport Beach, 92660, or calling (949) 261-0823.
