Driver Hits Tree, Dies in Mission Viejo
A 36-year-old Lake Forest woman who was apparently racing her car was killed Wednesday when her 1990 Honda Prelude spun out of control and struck a tree in Mission Viejo, authorities said.
Witnesses told Orange County sheriff’s investigators that the woman was eastbound on Trabuco Road near Puerta de Luz when she got into a race with a black BMW. At about 3:50 p.m., the woman’s car crossed the westbound lane and hit a tree, said Lt. Colin Murphy, a sheriff’s spokesman.
The driver of the BMW fled and has not been identified, Murphy said. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities did not release her identity pending notification of her relatives.
