A Rosie Time for ‘Millionaire’s’ O.C. Contestant

With a little help from talk-show host Rosie O’Donnell, Los Alamitos High School Assistant Principal Jerry Halpin is $32,000 richer.
As a contestant on the ABC-TV show “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire,” Halpin correctly answered that the Defense Department is in the Pentagon, that Napoleon is the name of a pastry and that the rock band Pearl Jam was named after a dish made by singer Eddie Vedder’s great-grandmother.
He needed help when asked which title was taken from Princess Diana when she and Prince Charles divorced. As his last “lifeline”--a phone call--he called O’Donnell. She chose the right answer, Her Royal Highness, for the $32,000 question, but not without some nervousness.
“And if you lose it, the guilt!” O’Donnell said. “I’m going to give it to you anyway.”
Unfortunately, the 39-year-old Cypress resident didn’t have O’Donnell’s help for the $64,000 question. He said that the ancient city of Babylon was in modern-day Iran. The correct answer is Iraq.
But with the money he made, Halpin will be able to visit both spots to make sure.
