Cal State Fullerton Biologist Is Honored
Robert A. Koch, a biology professor at Cal State Fullerton, received a systemwide award for faculty research.
Koch was honored for his research on cell biology and signaling among cells, winning the 1999-2000 Faculty Research Award at the 12th annual symposium of the CSU Program for Education and Research in Biotechnology.
He is the second Cal State Fullerton faculty member to receive the award. Maria C. Linder, professor of chemistry and biochemistry, was honored in 1993.
“It’s a great honor to receive this from colleagues across the entire system,” Koch said.
Koch, 52, has been researching the fertilization process since 1991, in collaboration with retired professor Charles Lambert, using sea squirts as a model to understand how cells communicate and move.
“This shows the value of undergraduate research and how much researching can be done in a college setting,” Koch said.
Koch has worked with nearly 50 students and has taught thousands of others since coming to Fullerton in 1976.
“The real credit should go to the people I work in the lab with,” Koch said.
