Spotlighting Jaci
I just wanted to say thank you for doing an amazing cover story feature on Jaci Velasquez (“A Higher Authority Is at Work,” by Alisa Valdes-Rodriguez, Feb. 6). I have been in the mainstream and Christian music industry for a number of years and I don’t think I have ever seen such coverage. My deepest appreciation goes to the assignment editor and writer for spotlighting Jaci the way you did.

I enjoyed reading the article about Jaci Velasquez. Contrary to stereotypes, however, the Catholic Church is not “undergoing” a decline as reported. The worldwide Catholic population between 1977 and 1997 moved from 660 million to more than 1 billion. The U.S. Catholic population during the same years increased from 49 million to 62 million (reference: www.adherents.com/Na_81.html).
