Cleaning Up Its Act

In its first week in operation, the Los Angeles Unified School District’s new Clean Restroom Hotline, (800) 495-1191, received 517 phone calls; of those, an estimated 130 did not address the restrooms in schools but instead complained about restrooms in grocery stores or Wal-Marts. Callers who did talk about the school facilities reported lack of doors or locks on stalls, empty soap and paper dispensers and the fact that sometimes restrooms remained locked throughout the day.
