Crescenta Valley Coaches Resign
Crescenta Valley High was dealt a huge blow last week when girls’ soccerCoach Bud Dain and assistants Matt and Judd Bogust announced their resignations.
The Bogusts founded the program 10 years ago. Five years ago, Dain was hired as coach.
Crescenta Valley went 170-40-20 during the Bogusts’ tenure and was 85-20-15 under Dain.
“I can’t geographically do what is necessary to build a program in Crescenta Valley anymore. It’s too far,” said Dain, who commutes from Westlake Village.
Matt Bogust, who runs youth softball and soccer programs, plans to devote more time to his two children. Judd Bogust is moving to England to start a business.
Dain said his likely replacement is junior varsity Coach Reggie Rivas.

After the Hart girls’ team lost to Crescenta Valley, 2-0, junior varsity Coach Carlos Godoy said Costa Nicalaou had resigned as Hart’s varsity coach.
Nicalaou, who was in Phoenix coaching the under-16 boys’ regional Olympic Development team, said there must have been a misunderstanding and he expects to be back at Hart next season.
“I have not resigned,” Nicalaou said. “I have no idea whether or not the administration is going to ask me back. You go on a year-by-year basis.”
While in Phoenix, Nicalaou’s team won the national championship with a 4-0 victory Sunday over Wisconsin. Nick Angelillo (Quartz Hill) and Raul Calderon (St. Francis) participated.
