Grier’s Late Three-Pointer Lifts Heritage
Jason Grier’s three-pointer with seven seconds remaining helped second-seeded Heritage Christian defeat third-seeded Antelope Valley Christian, 68-65, in a Southern Section Division V-A boys’ basketball semifinal Friday at Troy High.
Antelope Valley Christian missed a three-pointer with four seconds remaining and Heritage Christian ran out the clock. Heritage Christian advanced to the final to play Los Angeles Price, a 64-40 winner over Granada Hills Hillcrest Christian.
Ryan Meyer scored 12 of his 21 points in the fourth quarter, including all three of his three-pointers, and Matt Winter had 16 points for Heritage Christian (24-4).
Peter Beaudin scored 27 points for Antelope Valley Christian (17-10).
In a Division III-AA semifinal:
Compton Centennial 68, Corona del Mar 46--Kevin Hansen had 22 points for third-seeded Corona del Mar at Estancia High. Corona del Mar led, 27-20, at halftime before Centennial rallied. Corona del Mar still qualified for the state tournament.
In a Division IV-A semifinal:
Orange Lutheran 70, Ventura St. Bonaventure 61--Jason Whieldon had 28 points, including four three-pointers, and five steals and Patrick Salyer had 25 points and 17 rebounds for visiting Orange Lutheran (24-4).
Salyer had 12 points in the second quarter to help the Lancers take a five-point lead into halftime.
Orange Lutheran will face the Santa Monica Crossroads-L.A. Milken winner at the Pond next Saturday in the final.
