Councilman Henry W. Wedaa has been one of the main contributors to a committee set up to oust Mayor John M. Gullixson, according to a financial statement filed at City Hall.
The Committee to Recall Councilman John M. Gullixson reported that Wedaa loaned the group $1,373 during the period from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31 of last year to help pay for campaign literature, signs and mailers, two print advertisements and for Web site work. The loans reflect payments Wedaa made for the committee with a credit card.
The committee launched a petition drive in December to call a special election and get the mayor voted out of office. To date, it has collected about 2,780 names and has until March 31 to collect nearly 4,000 more signatures to reach the 6,550 needed to force a public vote.
