Teachers Union

As a retired California teacher, I applaud your ongoing reporting on the sad state of education in our state. Your Jan. 7 article rekindled memories of my intense frustration at the California Teachers Assn.’s nonstop march for power, political influence and money at the expense of truly helping teachers and their needs (not to mention the children).

Despite my disagreement with the union’s mediocre goals, empty promises and even choices for political offices, my support was coerced. In my district, union membership was mandatory. I’m still fuming!
