Police Identify Woman Found Slain in Compton
Police identified the woman whose stabbed body was stuffed into a blue duffel bag and found by a transient last week.
Police circulated a drawing of the victim Friday, and friends called over the weekend to identify her as 38-year-old Carmen Viqueroa Villegas, said Compton spokesman Frank Wheaton.
“We don’t think she had relatives here,” Wheatons said.
Villegas was last seen alive near her Los Angeles home on Jan. 1, Wheaton said.
The 4-foot-long duffel bag was found by a transient near Central Avenue and Brazil Street about 4:20 a.m. on Jan. 4, Wheaton said.
Officials said the killer or killers stabbed Villegas several times and then stuffed her body inside the bag.
Wheaton said investigators believe the crime occurred outside Compton before the body was dumped there.
Police have made no arrests. They urged anyone with information to call (310) 605-6565.
