Unidentified Pedestrian Killed by Freight Train
SOUTH-CENTRAL — An unidentified man was struck and killed by a freight train in South-Central Los Angeles on Wednesday.
According to witnesses, the accident occurred about 2:30 p.m. near the intersection of Slauson and Central avenues, when the man crossed either in front of or between the slow-moving train cars, said fire department spokesman Brian Humphrey.
“There were no other injuries, no derailment, but the man, unfortunately, had massive trauma--sadly, beyond our help,” Humphrey said.
It was not clear whether the man intended to kill himself.
Lt. Erik Arbuthnot of the county coroner’s office said the man may never be identified, given the condition of his remains.
