Santa Margarita Quarterback Picks UCLA

Santa Margarita senior Matt Dlugolecki, a late-season replacement for Chris Rix at quarterback, has committed to play for UCLA, Santa Margarita representative Adrian Peters said Monday.

Dlugolecki completed 51.6% of his passes for 528 yards, with three touchdowns and one interception as a junior. The 6-foot-6, 225-pounder completed eight of 12 passes for 152 yards in a first-round loss to Fontana Miller in the Southern Section Division I playoffs last season.

* Mater Dei will play Concord De La Salle, which is riding a 100-game winning streak, Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. at Cerritos College.

BASEBALL

Anaheim junior and senior division teams from the Gene Autry Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities program reached the championship of the Pacific Regional tournament on Sunday before losing at Safeco Field in Seattle.

The senior division team lost to Los Angeles, 3-2, after Anaheim pitcher Brian Poetschlag (Magnolia High) gave up two hits through six innings.

The junior division team lost to Los Angeles, 8-0, finishing the tournament 3-1.

KARATE

The Masters Karate Tournament will be held at the UC Irvine Bren Events Center Saturday and Sunday. The competition begins both days at 8 a.m. with a separate session of championship matches Saturday night at 7:30. Tickets range from $12-$20. Information: (800) 954-7779.
