A bar, a battlefield and a self-help seminar are the milieus for the three winning short plays in the second annual Page to Stage contest for California writers sponsored by the Orange County Playwrights Alliance. All will receive staged readings in this one-day event. First-place winner “Jimmy Waits,” by Santa Rosa writer John Augustine Morton, offers a brother-and-sister reunion in a bar; “Drum Journey,” by San Anselmo’s Scott Munson, satirizes the men’s movement; and Los Angeles writer Ryan Kelly writes about two desperate infantrymen in “Steel Springs,” which returns to the Vanguard after its recent showcase as winner of the West Coast 10-Minute Play Festival.

The small exhibit “Correspondences,” by Isamu Noguchi and Ellsworth Kelly, looks at the similarities of two artists from different periods who are committed to organic form. Both artists were influenced by Constantin Brancusi, the organic forms of Surrealism, and primitive and archaic sculpture. The exhibition will focus on their delicate drawings of plant forms as well as their commitment to spare and balanced geometric arrangements in their sculpture.
* “Correspondences: Isamu Noguchi and Ellsworth Kelly,” Orange County Museum of Art, 850 San Clemente Drive, Newport Beach. Tuesday-Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Through Oct. 15. $4 to $5. Free admission Tuesdays. (949) 759-1122.
