Firefighter Injured While Battling Blaze in Forest
SANTA CLARITA — One U.S. Forest Service firefighter was injured in a brush fire that charred about 150 acres in Angeles National Forest before it was controlled, authorities said Friday.
The fire started shortly after 10 p.m. Thursday in a dense thicket in the 35100 block of San Francisquito Canyon Road near Santa Clarita.
About 180 firefighters from the Forest Service and the Los Angeles County Fire Department climbed tough terrain and battled 50- to 100-foot flames.
“Some of the area was quite steep and it made it slow going for firefighters,” said Forest Service spokesman Bruce Quintelier.
No structures were threatened. The injured firefighter suffered a possible fracture to his left hand and was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in Valencia.
The cause of the blaze was under investigation.
