Man Arrested After Allegedly Assaulting Police, Paramedic
A police SWAT team surrounded the home of a man who allegedly attacked a paramedic Wednesday afternoon and then rammed two police cars with his vehicle as he fled, causing minor injuries.
David Glover, 36, was arrested after a four-hour standoff that ended when police fired tear gas into the house, stormed inside and fired rounds from a beanbag gun to subdue him, said Officer Jason Lee of the Los Angeles Police Department.
The incident began about 3:50 p.m. when paramedics from the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a domestic violence call in the 8400 block of Topanga Canyon Boulevard, Lee said. Glover allegedly battered one of the paramedics and then fled, slamming into two police cars arriving at the scene, Lee said.
After a dash around the block, Glover drove back to his single-family home and barricaded himself inside. Police believed he was armed with a knife and a hammer, Lee said.
No one else was inside the house.
Two police officers suffered minor injuries when Glover rammed their cars, Lee said, and one was taken to a local hospital for observation. He said both officers were in good condition.
The paramedic was not seriously hurt in the scuffle. Glover was taken to a local hospital for treatment related to being teargassed and possibly bruised by the beanbag rounds, Lee said. He will be booked on suspicion of assaulting two police officers with a deadly weapon.
