Fair to Highlight Anti-Blight Project
A community fair will be held Saturday in Winnetka to raise awareness about L.A.’s efforts to deter crime and fight blight.
Sponsored by the Citywide Nuisance Abatement Program, the fair will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Runnymede Park, 20200 Runnymede St., to explain to residents the Winnetka Block Project.
“The project’s purpose is to educate, inform and empower the residents and property owners in the community about how to access city services . . . everything from street lighting to crime prevention to building and safety,” City Councilwoman Laura Chick said.
There will be entertainment, information booths and refreshments. City agencies expected to participate include the Department of Water and Power, the Los Angeles Police Department, the community safety program Kidwatch L.A. and the Department of Building and Safety.
The Citywide Nuisance Abatement Program works to clean up abandoned buildings and nuisance properties in Los Angeles.
The program was created in 1997 by Chick in partnership with the city attorney, City Council, LAPD, and the departments of Building and Safety and Public Works. Winnetka was selected as a target area by the Nuisance Abatement Program in 1999.
