Serbs Attack U.N. Building in Kosovo
Hundreds of Serbs attacked a U.N. office in a town south of Pristina, the provincial capital of Kosovo, breaking windows, burning computers and setting a U.N. flag ablaze, officials said. The town of Strpce, 25 miles south of Pristina, has been the scene of previous confrontations between villagers and NATO peacekeepers and U.N. police. A North Atlantic Treaty Organization spokesman said the villagers apparently were unhappy with the response to their request for a search for an elderly villager, who was later found unharmed. The villagers had demanded that NATO peacekeepers use a helicopter in their search. U.N. employees vacated the building before the attack, and there were no injuries.
