Newport Harbor’s Jones Finishes Fifth in National Meet
Newport Harbor’s Trevor Jones finished fifth in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles Saturday at the USATF Junior Nationals track and field meet in Denton, Texas.
Jones, who set an Orange County record while winning the 300 hurdles at the high school state finals three weeks ago, finished in 52.33 seconds. Jones is expected to specialize in the 400 hurdles at UCLA next season.
Rickey Harris of Centreville High in Clifton, Va., won the event in 50.17. Cal State Fullerton’s Richard Adams finished seventh in 53.61.
Michelle Sanford, who recently completed her freshman season at Woodbridge High, finished ninth in the triple jump with a mark of 39 feet 5 3/4 inches, just off her personal best of 39-7 3/4. Lavada Hill of Southern Methodist took first at 43-0 1/2.
Sanford took sixth in the long jump on Friday with a personal-best 20-3 1/2.
