Bible Schoolers Build Playhouse for Others

More than 150 children from Westlake Village spent Wednesday building a playhouse as part of a Habitat for Humanity-sponsored subdivision project in Piru.

The children, ages 4 to 13, became involved as part of the Westminster Presbyterian Church’s weeklong vacation Bible school, called “Under Construction.”

The kids will complete the playhouse, equipped with a front porch, two window boxes and wallpaper, by the end of the week.

Julie Sexton, a Bible school director, found a way to incorporate the church’s call for service with the volunteer building project last winter when she found out about a Habitat for Humanity building curriculum for kids.

The playhouse will be given to three children living in the subdivision.

The Ventura County chapter of Habitat for Humanity has plans to build 22 homes in the area over the next three years.
