Man Jailed for Helping Suspected Killer of 4 Flee
LOS ANGELES — A La Puente man has been sentenced to a year in jail and five years’ probation for helping a relative who allegedly killed four members of a Rosemead family flee to Mexico.
Efrain Peredia, 24, will be freed in a month or two because he has credit for 300 days served, district attorney’s spokeswoman Sandi Gibbons said.
Superior Court Judge Stephen O’Neil also ordered that Peredia serve six years in state prison if he violates his probation.
Peredia was convicted earlier this month on charges of kidnapping and being an accessory after the fact for helping Evelio Rivera Zacarias, his uncle, flee to Mexico.
On Aug. 9, Zacarias, obsessed with his former girlfriend, allegedly stormed into the home of her new boyfriend’s family and began shooting. Four people were killed: Oscar Pacheco, 37; Andy Pacheco, 14; Jaime Pacheco, 48; and Victor Lopez, 42. A woman and a teenage boy were wounded, authorities said.
