Concordia Knocked Out
Point Loma Nazarene escaped with a 66-64 victory over Concordia in the first round of the Golden State Athletic Conference men’s basketball tournament Wednesday at Point Loma.
The Crusaders (27-5) led, 48-33, with 15 minutes remaining, but Concordia went on a 20-6 run over the next seven minutes and pulled within one on Brian Vander Wal’s three-point play.
Point Loma answered with a 7-0 run and Brian Frey’s 15-footer with 15 seconds remaining gave the Crusaders a five-point lead.
In another GSAC playoff game:
Azusa Pacific 102, Vanguard 89--Kevin Daley and Jerome Joseph combined for 52 points as Azusa Pacific rolled over Vanguard in a first-round game.
In nonconference baseball:
Concordia 14, Northwood (Texas) 8--Concordia scored at least two runs in five of the first six innings.
In Big West Conference women’s tennis:
UC Irvine 9, CS Fullerton 0--Sophomore Jonni Seymour defeated Amy Medlin in singles, 6-3, 6-2, then teamed with Darian Chappell for an 8-1 victory in doubles for UC Irvine (6-3, 2-0).
