A passenger jetliner crashed today while taking off from Moscow’s main airport, killing all nine people on board, Russia’s Emergency Situations Ministry said. The Yak-40 aircraft, a medium-range Soviet-era passenger jet that carries up to 120 passengers, was carrying a crew of five and four passengers, the ministry said. The Vologda airlines plane rose briefly into the air at Sheremetyevo Airport and then plunged down, officials said. There was no indication what caused the crash, they said. The plane was on a flight from Moscow to Kiev, the capital of Ukraine, officials said. The flight was reportedly chartered by Lukoil, Russia’s largest oil company.
