Plane’s Landing Gear Fails; No One Injured
A single-engine plane carrying four people made a belly-down landing at Burbank Airport on Sunday after its landing gear failed to deploy, an airport spokeswoman said.
The Piper Comanche carrying a pilot and three passengers set down about 5:18 p.m., spokeswoman Marci Greenberger said. No one aboard was reported injured. The plane sustained moderate damage to its engine and underside.
Greenberger said the airport did not close during the incident, but the east-west runway was shut down until the small plane was removed about 7 p.m.
The rough landing comes a week after a Southwest Airlines 737 skidded off the east-west runway at Burbank Airport, careened through a fence and stopped just short of a gas station on Hollywood Way.
That accident, which investigators believe was caused by pilot error, injured four people and heavily damaged the jet.
